Our Story

From Brown's Town to the heart of Atlanta

Born the second child of Angela Stewart and Joseph Rodney in Brown's Town, St. Ann, Chef Marvil Rodney first learned the craft beside his baker father and in the kitchens of Jamaica's north coast.

His professional journey began through a work-study placement at Breezes Runaway Bay. Success in carving and ice-sculpture competitions led to a work program at Opryland Hotel in Tennessee, where training under Wolfgang Puck broadened his fine-dining experience and helped him develop a style of his own.

After moving to Atlanta in 1999, Chef Rodney worked at the Sun Dial and the Livingston inside the Georgian Terrace, where his carving work was displayed for hotel guests. His catering business built a loyal following at weddings and celebrations before he opened Rodney's Jamaican Soul Food in 2011 — bringing Jamaican roots and Southern comfort together on every plate.

The crab cakes were fresh and flavorful, and the shrimp roti was packed with perfectly seasoned shrimp and so satisfying. Everything tasted fresh, and the service was friendly from start to finish. I’ll definitely be back!

First time being here. I had the salmon sandwich with cabbage on the side. It was amazing! My friend had pene pasta with tofu. It was delicious 😋! Our server was excellent. Wish I could remember her name. The place is beautiful! Very clean and classy! Food was hot & fresh! Definitely will be back. Saw the owner and I wish I had talk to him. Great Vibes!

Perfect. Find this place in Marietta. It is just next to the Battery. Order their COCKTAILS with your meal. GOOGLE this place. You shall enjoy if you are REAL. NO LIE! PERFECT! Come to this place and indulge! I myself, a perfectionist and meticulous. Come here for great food and drink. Thank you Rodney. Just add your ribs to the everyday menus. Again, THANK YOU.

Easy review. If you want some DELICIOUS jerl chicken, go eat at Rodney's Jamaican Soulfood. I've eaten here numerous times and I always get the perks chicken because it's always good. The coco bread is always hot and warm as well. The cabbage is delicious and the Mac and cheese is good, but it's not oven baked like we make at Thanksgiving so keep that in mind. I liked the collard greens but my lady didn't so that's subjective. They don't serve sweet tea which would be my only negative. Check them out.

Recently took my hubby out for his birthday to Rodney's. Unfortunately we ate the food and thought about the reviews later lol. But! Chris was our server and he was fantastic! Hubby had the lamb shank and it was delicious! The meat fell off the bone. I had the curry goat. It was really flavorful and fell off the bone. The side dishes were plentiful and tasty as well, rice&peas, yam souffle, breadfruit. The portions were hearty and the service was heartfelt! I also had the sorrel &ginger drink and it was fresh and delicious! Drinks were reasonably priced and they have a full bar! Just go! You will love it!
